Commercial Ventilation

Domestic Heat recovery units are not fit for purpose in large scale commercial buildings such as schools, hospitals, office blocks etc. These types of buildings require large amounts of supply air that larger units are specifically designed to help provide.

At Grocon Energies we have installed, commissioned, and maintained both Toshiba and Fujitsu Air-to-Air heat exchangers, overseeing their operation in large scale commercial buildings with different functions and requirements.

Depending on the function of the building, very high air change rates may be needed, be it to supply a required amount of fresh air throughout regularly crowded rooms or to remove pollutants in the air due to manufacturing or chemical processes occurring in the room. These units can supply up to 2000m3/hr to a building or section of a building.

Commercial air to air heat recovery units work in the same principle as the domestic heat recovery units. The main difference being the size of the unit and ducting. Dual flow ventilation occurs, simultaneously extracting warm waste air from kitchen, wet rooms, workshops, labs, chemical rooms etc while supplying the remaining rooms with warm, fresh air as required.

The warm extract air is passed through a cross flow or counter-flow heat exchanger with the outdoor intake air supply effectively reducing the energy demand on the heating system of the building.

Fujitsu Energy Recovery Ventilator

The Fujitsu Energy Recovery Ventilator dramatically reduces energy consumption by using a counterflow heat-exchange element. Air conditioning load is reduced by approximately 20%, resulting in significant energy savings.

Recovers up to 77% of the heat in the outgoing air.

With the crossflow element, air moves in a straight line across the element. With the counter-flow element, air flows through the element for a longer time (longer distance), so the heat-exchange effect remains unchanged.

Features & Benefits - Fujitsu Energy Recovery Ventilator

  • Recovers air suction heat and humidity up to 77% and transfers them to the outdoor fresh air.
  • Counterflow heat exchanger.
  • Slim shape and easy installation.
  • Simple remote operation
  • 5 models available with air flow ranges from 250 m3/h to 1000 m3/h.
  • Free cooling – Provides fresh outdoor cool air to reduce the indoor air temperature when the outdoor temperature is lower than the indoor air-conditioned temperature.
  • Reverse mountable direct air supply/exhaust system.
  • Quiet operation.

Toshiba Air-to-Air Heat Exchanger VN-M_HE

The Toshiba air to air heat exchanger completes the functions of stale air removal and fresh air intake while limiting heat dispersion by recovering up to 80% of the heat energy being expelled. This reduces the load on the heat source of the building thus saving on energy costs.

The Toshiba VN-M_HE range, consists of 9 models capable of achieving airflow rates ranging from 250 m3/h to 1000 m3/h. The VN-M150HE, VN-M250HE, VN-M350HE and VN-M500HE can be used in residential settings for dwellings up to 200m². The remaining 5 models are recommended for commercial use depending on the required demands.

For energy savings on those hot summer nights the system will bypass the heat exchange core and bring in cooler night air reducing load on air conditioning systems or eliminate the need for air conditioning altogether.

The Toshiba ‘HEX’ can be used as a standalone system or connected to any of Toshiba’s ‘RAV’ series heat pump air conditioner with a wired controller.

For commercial applications, the ‘HEX’ can be group controlled and comes with ‘U’ terminals for connection to TCC link, allowing integration with BACnet® Lon works® or Modbus. For increased installation flexibility the ‘HEX’ system can be configured as balanced, positive, or negative pressure.

Features & Benefits - Toshiba VN-M_HE

  • Recovers air suction heat and humidity up to 75% and transfers them to the outdoor fresh air.
  • The unit has the ability to automatically change operation mode of the air flow between heat exchanger mode (energy recovery) to normal standard ventilation mode (free cooling), based on the outdoor temperatures.
  • Free cooling – Provides fresh outdoor cool air to reduce the indoor air temperature when the outdoor temperature is lower than the indoor air-conditioned temperature.
  • 9 models available with air flow ranges from 150 m3/h to 2000 m3 /h.
  • Air balance volume rate can be varied to suit the usage environment and location.
  • Horizontal or upside-down installations.
  • Domestic and commercial sized units.
  • Air conditioners and heat exchangers are controlled with the same main bus system (TCC-LINK).
  • Quiet operation
